Scott Mace grew up in the Santa Clara Valley just before it turned to silicon. After studying writing and journalism at San Jose State University, he joined the computing trade publication InfoWorld in 1981 just before IBM introduced its Personal Computer. Over the next 14 years, he covered topics ranging from robotics to database management software, and also collected bylines in The Village Voice, The International Herald Tribune and Personal Computing magazine, among others. From 1985 to 1994, he resided in the Maryland area and also covered government procurement and regulation of technology. Returning to California in 1995, he led teams at InfoWorld’s Test Center conducting exhaustive comparisons of networking technology products. During the first wave of Internet adoption, he continued to write and report, organized events and produced podcasts for several companies. He focused on healthcare IT starting in 2004, freelancing for NurseWeek magazine. He also studied medical writing, completing a certificate in clinical trial design and management at UC San Diego Extension with an emphasis on medical devices. He rejoined the news business in 2012 with HealthLeaders Media. In 2015, he was honored to share a Neal Award with his colleague Michael Zeis for Best Technical Content for midsized publications. In 2016, he was awarded the National Silver Award, Regional Gold Award of Excellence, Feature Article, General Interest, More Than $3 Million Revenue, Southeast Category, by the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE) for the April 2015 HealthLeaders cover story, “The Reality of Virtual Care.” In 2017, he became senior editor of custom content for five editorial properties of H3.Group: HealthLeaders, DecisionHealth, HCPro, Patient Safety & Quality Healthcare, and ACDIS. He is based in Alameda, California.
